St Maurice Church in Naters, Switzerland

Together with our Swiss distributor Contrafeu we have provided the fire protection for St Maurice Church in Naters, Switzerland.
The gothic church, which dates back to the 11th century, is an important landmark for the community of Naters. The church council requested a fire protection solution for their church that would cause minimal damage to the structure in case of activation.
Churches and church towers are difficult to secure against fires. The main risks are the very poor accessibility especially in the upper parts of the towers, the old, dry, and mostly wooden tower construction and the lack of sufficient water for extinguishing purposes.

Why was a VID FIREKILL solution chosen?

The church council of Naters wanted a safe, comprehensive, and long-lasting fire protection solution for their church.
The FIREKILL™ low pressure watermist system is compatible with the local fire department’s equipment and water pressure and can therefore easily be connected to their hoses upon arrival to the church. This compatibility allows for immediate action as well as quick access to the tower. The simplicity and ability of the FIREKILL™ system makes it an ideal solution for protection of often complex structures such as churches, cathedrals, and attics in heritage buildings.

Some specifics

A permanently installed supply line supplies the individual levels of the tower as well as the church spire. Three nozzles protect the six levels of the tower, while the spire is protected by 12 nozzles. The system operates as a deluge system due to the nozzle configuration.
A fire alarm system with a highly sensitive smoke aspiration system monitors the tower and immediately reports even the smallest fires to the fire brigade.
