Offshore installations are critical constructions

Oil platforms are key fixed installations from which drilling and production activities are carried out. Drilling rigs are either floating vessels for deeper water or jack-up designs which are a barge with liftable legs. Floating storage and production (FPSO) are floating units mainly used for smaller oil fields or as additional storage facilities. The main fire riks on such units are often the topside equipment and generator installations. The production carried out on these units is the process of extracting the hydrocarbons and separating the mixture of liquid hydrocarbons, gas, water, and solids, removing the constituents that are non-saleable. A fire on the topside equipment can cause explosions which again can lead to catastrophic environmental damages in addition to serious economic problems. Generator fires will normally lead to stop in production if the fire is suppressed rapidly.
