Villa Copenhagen - Ensuring Safety While Preserving Beauty

VID FIREKILL Fire Protecting the Luxurious Hotel Villa Copenhagen

Hotel Villa Copenhagen in the heart of Copenhagen is an excellent example of the revitalization of a beautiful historic building. In 2020 the original Central Post & Telegraph Head Office, which dates back to 1912, was transformed into a luxury hotel by the architects Krook & Tjäder. Nordic Choice Hotels is the owner of the 25,400 m² neo-baroque building that features 390 rooms, along with conference facilities and an additional 1,200 m² dedicated to events and wellness.
The vision behind transforming the architectural landmark was to create a central, laid-back destination that blends luxury hospitality with sustainability while honoring Scandinavian design. The transformation of the building has focused on preserving its external appearance while highlighting its unique qualities rooted in historical origins, architecture, and interior design.
VID FIREKILL has provided fire protection for key areas of the iconic building, including the reception area, bar, and conference room. A low pressure water mist solution was found to be an ideal solution for the project. This solution not only provides comprehensive coverage but also preserves the aesthetics and design of the spaces, all while meeting sustainability requirements.

Unique Challenges

The hotel features an impressive atrium lobby with a curved glass roof, which presented unique fire protection challenges that required a customized approach. To ensure complete fire safety, a special open nozzle design was implemented, seamlessly integrating with the structure's aesthetic.
The conference room features a black-painted wooden cloud ceiling. To maintain the aesthetic appeal of the curved ceiling, specially designed open nozzles with varying pipe lengths were installed just below ceiling level, allowing for unobstructed spray. The pipes and nozzles were painted black to blend seamlessly into the ceiling, ensuring they did not disrupt the overall visual design.
